Dinghy Sailing

Dinghy Sailing exists to cater for all those who cannot commit to the several days a week demanded by Team Racing, but still want to sail and race dinghies close to Cambridge. We welcome sailors of any ability, and run beginner and more advanced tuition to RYA training standards - plus fleet racing for more experienced sailors. In addition, you are eligible to try out windsurfing!

The Section shares the Club's Fireflies with the Team Racers. In addition, we hire boats such as Fevas and Laser 2000's from Grafham Water SC - our home base. We also have access to plenty of wetsuits and buoyancy aids. All for only £50 a year - and £5 a trip for petrol money. To get involved, find us at the Freshers Fair, or use this online form (opens a new window) to register your interest.

All of this amounts to value for money that is ridiculously good in comparison to sailing opportunities anywhere else. To experience what sailing at Grafham is really like, sign up for a Taster Session (first weekend of Michaelmas Term) at the Club's membership management website (opens in a new window). Alternatively, you can join now at the same website.

What You Need

We provide wetsuits and buoyancy aids, and you are welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer. The following lists should give you an idea of what to bring:

  • Teeshirt/rash vest to wear under wetsuit
  • Shoes/trainers that can get wet
  • Windproof top

In winter and colder conditions also bring:

  • Fleece(s) - definitely needed Nov-Mar
  • Gloves
  • etc.

If in doubt, bring too much stuff!
