Activity Summaries And Photographs

Team Racing

Team racing is a seriously-competitive sport at Cambridge and CUCrC teams have dominated university sailing in the UK for the past few years. The squad comprises three or four mixed teams, with an occasional ladies-only team. Windsurfing

The Windsurfing section's activities range from teaching complete beginners through to taking part in national events. A 1st (Blues) and 2nd team contest the annual Varsity Match. Regular beginner sessions take place at Grafham Water. View photographs (opening in new windows) of 2017 start-of-year activities and the 2017 Varsity Match, both at Grafham Water.

Dinghy Sailing

Dinghy Sailing exists to cater for all those who cannot commit to the several days a week demanded by Team Racing, but still want to sail and race dinghies close to Cambridge. We welcome sailors of any ability, and run beginner and more advanced tuition to RYA training standards. View photographs (opening in new windows) of 2017 start-of-year activities.

Alumni Support

Alumni Supporter status is aimed at 'old' Cruising Club and University members who enjoyed their time sailing at Cambridge, or have taken up sailing later in life. Use this online form (opens in a new window) to register your interest. Regular news posts are made on the Alumni & News website (opens in a new window), which also gives more details of alumni activities.

How To Join Or Register Your Interest

Take advantage of the Freshers Fair to come along and talk to us - look for a dinghy or board outside and a large burgee banner inside. Sign up for a taster session at Grafham (opens in a new window) - first Saturday and Sunday of the Michaelmas term, and come to the CUCrC Squash. Details of time and place will be provided closer to the time by email, on the Programme page, and on fliers at the Freshers Fair. Use this online form (opens a new window) to register your interest on our emailing list, or if you want to join now, use the Club's membership management website (opens in a new window).

Student Membership is open to registered students (of Cambridge University - and elsewhere if full time and at a non-commercial institution); Non-Student (Senior Affiliate) Membership, with restricted sailing and windsurfing opportunities, is open to others associated with the University or with the City (but subject to General Committee confirmation and the member being able to help the Club in some way such as providing transport or instructing); and Alumni Supporter status is open to all those who want to keep in touch with and support the Club, but do not wish to participate in sailing or windsurfing activities.

The current student membership fee is £50, there is no fee for non-student membership (but you need to be able to help the Club with transport or training), and the Alumni Supporter 'fee' is a voluntary donation to the Club's Boat and Board Fund. The only regular cost for sailing and windsurfing at Grafham, after your membership fee, is for transport to and from Grafham Water - normally £5. For non-members there is a day membership fee of £10 when joining a Club trip to Grafham for which all the available spaces have not been taken up by members.

If you are not sure you want to sail or windsurf at Cambridge, you can participate in a half-day taster session at Grafham Water during the first Saturday or Sunday of the Michaelmas Term for only £15 - including transport costs - and £10 will be knocked off your membership fee if you join the Club before the end of October! Sign up for a Taster Weekend session or membership at the Club's membership management website (opens in a new window). Otherwise, use this online form (opens in a new window) to register your interest or join now at our membership management website (opens in a new window).
